Usain Bolt suffers major tragedy as heartbreaking tributes pour in

Father of Olympic legend Usain Bolt, has passed away after ‘battle with illness’ as tributes flood in. Usain Bolt’s father, Wellesley, has died aged 68.

The Olympic legend’s dad passed away on Monday after a lengthy battle with an illness, local media confirmed.

Wellesley has often been credited for the stunning success that his son, Usain, found in his career – having won eight Olympic gold medals before retiring.

Bolt is said to have maintained a close relationship with his father, who was often seen celebrating with the Jamaican track star after his races.

Wellesley worked in the coffee industry for 16 years before managing a local grocery store with wife Jennifer, providing for their family in a community with limited resources like running water and paved roads.

He leaves behind his children Usain, Sadiki and Christine Bolt-Hylton.
Despite Usain’s global fame, Wellesley remained rooted in Sherwood Content, resisting the urge to leave even as Usain’s success brought improvements like better infrastructure to their village.

Tributes quickly began flooding in for the sprinting star’s father. Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, wrote: ‘I join with every Jamaican in extending my deepest and most sincere condolences to @usainbolt, his beloved mother Mrs. Jennifer Bolt, and the entire Bolt family, following the passing of their patriarch, Mr. Wellesley Bolt.

‘Mr. Bolt was the father of a global icon, and a strong, quiet force behind one of Jamaica’s greatest sons. His presence, support, and guidance helped to shape a legacy that continues to inspire the world.

‘Usain, we have all witnessed the deep love and respect you’ve always shown for your family. You celebrated them with pride, and in doing so, you reminded us of the importance of family in our own lives.

‘As you grieve this great loss, the prayers and support of an entire nation are with you. We mourn with you, we stand with you, and we honour the memory of your father alongside you’.

Bolt is yet to comment about the situation in his own social media.

Olivia Grange, a member of parliament in Jamaica, added: ‘I offer my sincerest condolences to Jennifer, Usain, and the rest of the Bolt family.

‘It is going to be a difficult time, but I encourage them to be comforted by the memory of a very good father.’
