The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, OFR, has inaugurated the Eze-elect of Obohia Ndoki and former President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Madrid, Spain, Chief Ugochukwu John Nduwuisi, as Chairman of the Abia State Amateur Wrestling Association and a member of the Abia State Sports Association Board.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the Umuahia Township Stadium Indoor Hall on Wednesday, the Governor—represented by his Deputy, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu—described the event as a significant milestone. He noted that it marks the beginning of renewed efforts to harness sports as a means of promoting discipline, unity, and excellence among young people.

He congratulated Chief Ugochukwu and other appointed board members, describing their selection as both a recognition of their competence and a call to service.

The Deputy Governor urged Chief Ugochukwu to deploy his extensive experience in sports for the benefit of the state. He emphasised that sports remain a powerful tool for uplifting young people.

“Sports remain one of the most effective means to engage, inspire, and uplift young people,” he said, adding that Abia State is endowed with abundant talent across football, athletics, combat sports, and indoor games. He emphasised that such talent must be supported by proper structure, investment, and effective administration.

The Governor further charged the board to provide strategic leadership, ensure transparency, and create opportunities that will enable athletes to excel at both national and international levels.

In his remarks, the Eze-elect of Obohia Ndoki, Chief Ugochukwu John Nduwuisi, thanked Governor Otti for the appointment and pledged to work diligently towards improving sports development in the state.
