Ogilisi Igbo to FG: ‘Super Falcons’ Success is Just the Beginning—Invest in Sports to Unlock Nigeria’s Talent

In a thrilling comeback that has left the world buzzing, Nigeria’s Super Falcons emerged victorious against Morocco in the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON), overturning a 2-goal deficit to clinch a 3-2 win.

The historic victory has not only cemented the Super Falcons’ dominance in African women’s football but has also ignited calls for greater investment in sports development across Nigeria.

Among those celebrating the triumph is Ogilisi Igbo, the visionary founder of Rojenny Games and Tourists Village in Oba, Idemili South Local Government of Anambra State, who has urged the Federal Government to prioritize sports as a tool for youth empowerment and national unity.

In a heartfelt telephone conversation, Ogilisi Igbo praised the Super Falcons for their resilience and skill, which were on full display throughout the tournament. “I am immensely proud of the Super Falcons for their remarkable performance,” he said. “Coming back from a 2-goal deficit to win 3-2 against Morocco is no small feat. They have shown the world the strength and determination that Nigerian athletes possess.”

Ogilisi Igbo, a seasoned sports investor and enthusiast, emphasized the transformative power of sports in uniting and empowering the youth. “Sports is the one thing that can bring Nigerian youths together,” he stated. “It has the ability to change mindsets, instill discipline, and provide hope for a brighter future.” The founder of Rojenny Games Village, a multi-billion naira sports facility established 40 years ago, has long been a champion of sports development in Nigeria. He believes that the country has the potential to dominate global sporting events if the government and private sector invest in training facilities and youth development programs.

“Nigeria has all it takes to train the teeming youth in both government and private facilities like Rojenny Games Village,” Ogilisi Igbo asserted. “We need to harness this potential to ensure our athletes can compete and win on the world stage.”

He called on the Federal Government to take immediate steps to revitalize sports infrastructure across the country. “Almost all the stadia in Nigeria are lying idle due to leadership vacuum and mismanagement of priorities,” he lamented. “This is a critical moment for the government to focus on sports development. Sporting facilities should be provided even at the community level to encourage participation and identify talent.”

Ogilisi Igbo also emphasized the importance of rewarding athletes for their hard work and dedication. “The Super Falcons have made Nigeria proud, and they deserve adequate compensation for their efforts,” he said. “Beyond football, the government should pay attention to other sports and provide incentives for our youth to excel in their chosen fields.”

The sports veteran’s message resonates with many Nigerians who see sports as a unifying force and a pathway to national development. His Rojenny Games Village stands as a testament to his commitment to empowering the youth through sports. Established over four decades ago, the facility has served as a training ground for aspiring athletes and a hub for sporting activities in the region.

As the Super Falcons bask in the glory of their WAFCON victory, Ogilisi Igbo’s call to action serves as a timely reminder of the untapped potential of Nigerian sports. “The Federal Government must seize this opportunity to invest in sports and guide our youth towards a brighter future,” he concluded. “With the right support, Nigeria can become a global powerhouse in sports.”

The Super Falcons’ triumph is not just a victory on the pitch but a rallying cry for a nation to harness the power of sports for unity, empowerment, and national pride. With voices like Ogilisi Igbo’s leading the charge, the future of Nigerian sports looks brighter than ever..
