How Senator Ned Nwoko Changed My Life Through His Scholarship

As a proud beneficiary of the scholarship by Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko, I speak not only with confidence but with deep gratitude. My story is one of many across Nigeria. Senator Ned Nwoko has touched lives in ways that go beyond words. There was a time when my dreams felt distant and uncertain. Today, they feel real and close because one man chose to give others a chance. His kindness did not just support my education—it gave me hope when I needed it most.

My name is Tobenna Vincent Okorie, a footballer and a 300-level student of Sports Management and Administration at the Sports University of Nigeria. Like many young people, I once faced doubts about my future. The path ahead was not clear, and opportunities were limited. But through the support of Senator Ned Nwoko, I found a new direction. His scholarship gave me more than access to school; it gave me purpose, confidence, and the strength to believe in myself again.

Through the Senator Ned Nwoko Scholarship Scheme, more than 150 students at the Sports University of Nigeria, including me, have received full support. Beyond this, he has also extended scholarships to many students in other universities across Nigeria. This shows that his vision is broad and his heart is open. He is not helping just a few; he is investing in the future of a whole nation. For many of us, higher education would have remained only a dream without his help. His actions show true care and a strong belief in what young Nigerians can become.

At the university, we learn in a focused and inspiring environment. We train under both an international coach and a Nigerian coach, which gives us a balance of global knowledge and local experience. This training helps us grow in skill and discipline. It also prepares us to compete at high levels in sports. Every day, we are shaped into athletes who can stand with confidence on the world stage.

In academics, the university is guided by a world-class Vice Chancellor, Prof Nduka Uraih, a man whose leadership goes beyond the classroom. He plays a strong fatherly and mentorship role in the lives of students. You can see him walk across the campus, stopping to speak with students, listening to their concerns, and offering advice with patience and care. In meetings and lectures, his words are firm but encouraging, pushing us to do better while reminding us of our value. He celebrates our progress and corrects us when needed, always with the aim of helping us grow. His presence brings a sense of guidance and stability, like that of a father who truly wants his children to succeed. Under his leadership, we feel seen, supported, and challenged to become our best selves.

What stands out most about Senator Ned Nwoko is his clear purpose. He truly cares about young people and their future. By supporting education not only in sports but also in many other universities across Nigeria, he shows that every field has value. His work helps young people build skills, find direction, and prepare for life. This is not just about today—it is about building a better tomorrow.

For me, this scholarship is not just help; it is a responsibility. It pushes me to stay focused, work hard, and aim for excellence both on and off the field. As I look ahead to my graduation from the Sports University of Nigeria, I carry a strong dream in my heart. I look forward to playing on the international stage, wearing the jersey of Arsenal F.C., and proudly representing my country, Nigeria. This dream is now possible because someone believed in me.

At a time when many young people face uncertainty, this kind of support brings hope. Senator Ned Nwoko has shown that true leadership is seen in actions that lift others. His impact lives on in every student he has supported and in every success story that will follow.

Senator Ned Nwoko is not only a leader; he is a man with a kind heart. He deserves strong praise for his good work. He is a true example of a leader who serves the people. His kindness, support, and vision will continue to change lives for many years. We, the beneficiaries, are grateful, and we will always remember what he has done for us.

As beneficiaries, I will carry his vision forward. I will use this opportunity well and work to support the growth of sports and society in Nigeria. Thank you our Daddy!
