Abuja: Suspect Confesses Why He Absconded with N55m Mercedes Benz

A fleeing suspect who was arrested by the Police on Thursday has narrated why he escaped with a Mercedez Benz GLB 250 4MATIC car worth around N55 million during a test drive in Abuja.

The suspect spoke to newsmen in Delta State after he was arrested.

The Delta State Police Command arrested the suspect who posed as an intending buyer and allegedly absconded with a N55m Mercedes Benz SUV during a test drive in Abuja June 30.

The car was was later recovered where it was abandoned in a bush along Oteri road by Doctors Quarters Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on July 3.

The 25-year-old suspect identified as Meshach Siunuphro, was later arrested in Benin City, Edo State.

Siunuphro who claimed to be a 300-level student of Business Administration in Turkey, said he was hypnotized. He added that he was also into forex trade, and intended to buy the car for personal use.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, said in a statement on Thursday, July 6, said the suspect, Meshack Sinuphro, specializes in stealing vehicles while pretending to be a buyer.

According to the PPRO, the suspect was arrested in Benin City, Edo State while the stolen car was recovered in a bush along Oteri road in Ughelli North.

“Sequel to a complaint received on 3/7/2023 at about 1700hours from a car dealer in Abuja whose vehicle was stolen from his car stand by the suspect who disguised as intending buyer and absconded with the said vehicle during a test drive on 30/6/2023 in Abuja,” the statement read.

“Armed with available intelligence, operatives of the CP-Decoy Squad stormed Ughelli town at about 0115hours of 3/7/2023 and recovered the said Mercedes Benz SUV abandoned in a bush along Oteri road by Doctors Quarters Ughelli North LGA. Serious manhunt for the suspect is ongoing,”

In an update, the PPRO added; “The suspect, Meshack Sinuphro, who allegedly stole the Benz at Abuja while pretending to be a buyer, has been arrested by the Command Decoy squad today in Benin city. Suspect will be transferred to FCT command soonest. Always report crimes to the police, and we will always deliver,” the spokesperson added

Edafe during the parade of the suspect, seized the opportunity to advise car dealers and car owners to be wary of the new scheme by criminals to snatch cars from people.

He cautioned those who take their cars to car wash centres never to hand over the keys to the attendants.
