Abuja, NIGERIA — In a reshuffle aimed at revitalizing his administration, Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has discharged five ministers and redeployed ten others within his cabinet. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance governance and efficiency in key sectors of the Nigerian government.

As part of this cabinet realignment, the President has also nominated seven new individuals to take up ministerial roles. Among the new appointments, Sunday Akin Dare has been designated as the Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, a position he will occupy within the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

The ministers removed from their positions include Uju-Ken Ohanenye, formerly Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, who served as Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development. Their departures signal a shift in focus as the administration seeks to streamline its operations and respond more effectively to national challenges.

In the latest nominations, President Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, officially concluding the tenure of the suspended Betta Edu. Additionally, Maigari Dingyadi has been nominated as Minister of Labour and Employment, while Jumoke Oduwole will take on the role of Minister of Industry. The newly established Ministry of Livestock Development will be led by Idi Maiha, and Yusuf Ata has been nominated as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, alongside Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.

This cabinet reshuffle reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing pressing socio-economic issues in Nigeria, as he seeks to infuse fresh perspectives and expertise into his administration. The appointments come at a crucial time, as the government grapples with challenges ranging from economic recovery to social welfare, and they underscore the President’s strategic vision for a more effective governance structure.
