Abuja, NIGERIA — Superintendent of Police (SP) Phoebe Vincent Niyel said goodbye to the Nigeria Police on Monday in a ceremony that paid overwhelming encomium to her three and half decades of service to fatherland.

“Service in this carrier is tough and often dangerous, and it extracts a price for participation and that price can be high,” Niyel said.

“I’ve been lucky throughout my professional career to meet, work and learn from so many great police officers. My paths with them have continued to cross over the years as I advanced in my career,” she said.

The ceremony was held on a sweltering early evening on the parade ground of the Nigeria Police Commander Headquarters in Asaba the Delta State capital.

Dressed in traditional attire rather than a dressed uniform, she was joined on the reviewing stand by senior police officers of the command. In the crowd of several hundreds were, many now retired, with whom Neyil had served.

SP (Dr) Usman Dimka thanked SP Phoebe Niyel for her diligence service

Niyel last posting was at the Delta State Police Command, EagleNet office, a special tactical squad specialized in counterterrorism, intelligence, crime analysis, and information sharing, headed by one of the Nigerian finest Nigeria police officer, SP (Dr) Usman Abdul-Dimka.

“She is undoubtedly one of the most forward-thinking and progressive police officers I have ever met. Her knowledge, acumen and progressive thinking have benefited the EagleNet Squad and the Nigerian police as a whole,” SP (Dr) Abdul-Dimka retorted.

“Neyil retirement, is worth celebrating – but it would be an incredible loss to us. She was very dedicated, supportive; we are grateful for her tour of duty. This is the time to start giving back to Nigeria police. As a retired police officer you are still involved directly and indirectly contributing in so many ways to the police office in combatting crime,” he added.

She served with distinction and gallantry in a variety of assignments and posting in her capacity as officer and detective.”

Continuing, he said, “during her exemplary service with the EagleNet Squad in the past 5 year, headed by our patron, SP. She has earned the respect and admiration of her subordinates, peers, senior officers, and we at the civil society as well as the people.

“In recognition of her dedicated service to the Nigeria Police, we present her with a Siena Bus to encourage her and others. She has left her fine mark on the city of Delta State, I join her colleagues in thanking her and wishing her all the best on her well-deserved retirement,” Okorie concluded.
