The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, has presented the Enugu State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Prince Lawrence Ezeh, with an award of honour titled Beacon of Hope for Transformation 2026.

The award was conferred on Thursday at the Enugu Press Centre in recognition of what the union described as Dr Ezeh’s contribution to technological development and public sector reform in the state.

Presenting the award, the State Council chairman, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, described Dr Prince Ezeh as “a visionary public servant whose leadership has inspired confidence in the future of Enugu’s digital transformation”. He commended the commissioner’s efforts in promoting innovation, supporting youth-driven enterprise and strengthening collaboration between government and the media.

Ogbuka said the honour reflected the union’s appreciation of Dr Ezeh’s commitment to transparency and engagement with journalists. He added that the commissioner had consistently demonstrated openness in communicating government policies and initiatives, particularly in the rapidly evolving fields of science and technology.

In his response, Dr Prince Ezeh thanked the NUJ for what he termed a humbling recognition and dedicated the award to the governor and people of Enugu State. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the work of journalists and strengthening institutional relationships between the media and government.

“I deeply appreciate this honour from the Nigeria Union of Journalists,” he said. “The media remains a critical partner in our collective journey towards transformation.”

Dr Ezeh urged journalists to uphold the highest ethical standards in the discharge of their duties, stressing the need for accuracy, fairness and responsibility in reporting. He cautioned against sensationalism and misinformation, which he said could undermine public trust and social cohesion.

“The media is the watchdog of society,” he said. “At all times, journalists must be guided by truth, professionalism and integrity.”

He argued that a vibrant and ethical press was indispensable to democratic governance and sustainable development. According to him, responsible journalism strengthens accountability, promotes informed public discourse and supports policy implementation.

The event drew journalists, government officials and stakeholders from the state’s technology sector. Observers said the award signalled continued cooperation between the media and public institutions in Enugu, as the state advances its innovation-driven development agenda.

The NUJ said it would continue to recognise individuals whose leadership and service contribute meaningfully to societal progress.
