House of Representatives Summons EFCC Chairperson, Social Media Influencers Over Bribery Allegations

The House of Representatives has summoned Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairperson Ola Olukoyede, social media influencer Martins Otse (known as VDM), and Bobrisky in connection with allegations of bribery involving the EFCC and the Nigeria Correctional Service.

This information was disclosed in a letter from Jon Ginger Onwusibe, the Lead Chairperson of the joint committee, detailing concerns over corruption within these agencies.

Other individuals summoned include Ben Freedman, Controller of Corrections for Lagos Command; Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the board; and Deputy Controllers Siriku Adekunle and Michael Anugwa. The committee has requested their appearance on Monday to address the allegations.

On Thursday, the federal government suspended several senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service over bribery claims linked to Bobrisky. The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board, in a statement from Ahmed, announced the suspensions of Anugwa and Adekunle in response to these allegations.

The allegations assert that Bobrisky offered bribes to officials following his arrest for money laundering and Naira abuse earlier this year. Although he was sentenced to six months in prison for Naira abuse, the money laundering charges were dismissed.

Following his release, Martins Otse posted an audio recording on Instagram claiming Bobrisky discussed paying EFCC officials N15 million to drop the money laundering charges. In response, Olukoyede has called for an immediate investigation into these bribery claims and requested that Bobrisky and Otse visit the EFCC’s Lagos office to assist with inquiries.

Additionally, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has ordered a comprehensive investigation into Bobrisky’s allegations of bribing Nigeria Correctional Service officials to evade prison.
