Bureau for State Pensions Boss, hails Gov Oborevwori’s approval of N10bn for pension backlogs

As Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approves the immediate release of N10 billion to clear outstanding pension arrears owed retirees in the state , Chairman of the Bureau for State Pensions, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, has assured that the release would serve as a huge relief to retirees.

The elated State Bureau for Pension Boss who described the Governor,s announcement as “a pleasant surprise”, pledged that the funds would be used exclusively for pension payments.

Sir Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje stressed that the system was programmed in such a way as to ensure transparency and accountability in the entire pensions payment process

Governor Oborevwori broke the cheering news on Tuesday August 18, 2025 , during a meeting with the State Pension Board, led by the Chairman, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, and the State Chairman of the Association of Contributory Retirees , Comrade Anthony Ozu Osanekwu

The Governor had disclosed that he convened the meeting to address pressing issues concerning the welfare of retirees , including payment of backlogs and migration challenges under the contributory pension scheme, disclosing that while #1.4 billion was released for payments of pensions monthly since he assumed office , a total of #36.4 billion had so far been paid in pensions

The Chairman of the Association of Contributory Retirees, Comrade Anthony Ozu Osanekwu, had expressed appreciation to the Governor for what he described as an unexpected and magnanimous gesture

He said the Governor took them unawares with his unprecedented #10 billion approval for his members , adding that their joy will know no bounds when the news trickles across to them
