The Traditional Prime Minister and Iyase of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, High Chief Mike Nwaukoni, has called for greater unity, cooperation, and mutual trust among the Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups. His message, aimed at fostering national cohesion, comes at a crucial time when Nigeria continues to grapple with political, economic, and security challenges.
In his New Year’s goodwill message, Chief Nwaukoni highlighted the country’s abundant mineral resources, noting that these natural assets are distributed across the various geo-political zones. He emphasized the importance of harnessing these resources for the benefit of all Nigerians, urging that everyone—regardless of background or ethnicity—must work together to ensure that the nation’s wealth is used to improve the lives of the greatest number of citizens.
“The resources in our country are vast, and they belong to all of us. We must look beyond our ethnic and regional divides and focus on the common good,” Chief Nwaukoni said. “This is the time for all hands to be on deck. Let us unite for the future of our children and generations yet unborn.”
The renowned business mogul also urged Nigerians to embrace the values of peaceful co-existence and mutual respect, stressing the need to build bridges across ethnic and religious lines. He further called for increased dialogue on areas of disagreement, suggesting that robust conversations are essential for resolving conflicts and building a more united country.
In his message, Chief Nwaukoni encouraged Nigerians to place their national identity above all other affiliations. “We must see ourselves first as Nigerians. Our national interest should always take precedence over ethnic, religious, and cultural considerations,” he remarked. This call for unity comes at a time when Nigeria faces tensions driven by religious and ethnic divides, as well as the economic challenges exacerbated by policy shifts.
Turning his attention to the state of the nation’s economy, Chief Nwaukoni acknowledged the current hardships Nigerians are enduring. He urged both the Federal Government and sub-national authorities to implement policies that would alleviate the economic strain on the citizens, particularly those suffering from the adverse effects of recent economic reforms.
