Abuja, NIGERIA — A multiple floors building under construction in Asaba Delta State has collapsed but no casualty recorded

The building located opposite Asaba Mall, adjacent Interbau flyover, partly collapsed today as a result of structural defect.

Delta State Emergency Management Team, Red Cross and other agencies were on ground for rescue operation.

In recent years, Nigeria has recorded number of deadly building collapse as a result of poor construction techniques , quacks workmanship, use of inferior materials and climatic conditions which are more frequent cause of collapse buildings

Further, the use of quacks as builders to supervise building processes has also led to building collapse.

Meanwhile, the state government has since sealed the construction site

According to the Delta State Commissioner for Urban Renewal Michael Anoka who was on the ground to inspect the collapsed structure and the level of damage, no casualties were recorded and no injuries were sustained.

According to the Commissioner, “earlier today, I, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, esteemed directors, and the General Manager of the Urban and Regional Planning Board, conducted an on-site accessment in Asaba the Delta State capital, where regrettably, an ongoing building construction project collapsed this evening. Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities; however, a few individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care. Notably, this unfortunate event transpired during the casting phase of the construction process.

“We kindly request the public to remain composed and await further updates from our ministry as we diligently pursue an exhaustive investigation into the underlying causes of this building collapse. The Ministry of Urban Renewal remains unwavering in its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism in civil engineering construction. Our collective dedication is directed towards ensuring that such incidents are meticulously scrutinized to prevent their recurrence in the future.”
